Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi has suggested that he would be interested in a move to the Bundesliga this summer telling BILD that Germany is ‘my home’.

Strangely enough, a World Cup-winning centre-back with 20 caps for the Nationalmannschaft has not made a single Bundesliga appearance in his entire professional career.

Mustafi packed his bags and swapped Hamburg for Everton in 2009.

And, in the 11 years since, he has turned out for Sampdoria in Italy and Valencia in Spain before returning to the Premier League with Arsenal.

And with the Gunners likely to sell if an acceptable offer arrives for a man who has struggled to live up to his £35 million price-tag at the Emirates, the 28-year-old has dropped a less-than-subtle hint about his desire to return to where it all began for him in the beautiful game.

“The Bundesliga is always interesting for me,” Mustafi admits.

“In terms of sport, (Germany) has undergone a great development. It’s also my home.”

Mustafi is out of contract in the summer of 2021.

And despite making some great strides of his own since Mikel Arteta took over in North London, putting those high-profile errors behind him during a series of commanding performances, there is a very real chance that he has just a few weeks left in that famous red shirt.

William Saliba looks set to be Arsenal’s first-choice centre-back for years to come while The Gunners scour the market for another talented young defender to partner the Frenchman in Arteta’s starting XI.
