A number of clubs are keeping tabs on Eric Lichaj’s situation at Nottingham Forest, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Lichaj is in the last year of his current contract at the City Ground and he has yet to be offered a new deal by the club.

The news of Lichaj’s contract situation comes as something of a surprise as the 28-year-old was one of Forest’s shining lights last season and was named the club’s Player Of The Season last term.

Full-back Lichaj made 45 appearances in all competitions for Forest last season, scoring twice in the wins against Birmingham City and Huddersfield Town at The City Ground.

Lichaj has proved himself to be a reliable and consistent performer for Forest since joining the club from Aston Villa in 2013 and was named captain on several occasions last season.

Lichaj’s position in the Forest side is under threat with Reds boss Mark Warburton trying to sign right-back Tendayi Darikwa from Burnley and news of Lichaj’s potential availability has alerted a number of clubs at home and abroad.

Lichaj is currently away on international duty with the USA and his performances in helping America reach the final of the Gold Cup has caught the attention of several sides.

The defender scored the decisive goal in the USA’s quarter-final win over El Salvador and if he finds himself surplus to requirements at Forest for this upcoming season he is sure to have no shortage of suitors.
