Inter Milan are reportedly interested in Fulham defender and rumoured Newcastle United target Tosin Adarabioyo if they fail to sign AS Roma star Chris Smalling in the summer transfer window.

According to TuttoMercatoWeb, the Nerazzurri are keeping tabs on the former Manchester City academy star as an alternative for Smalling, with the England international viewed as Inter’s main candidate to replace Milan Skriniar at the end of this season.

Inter aren’t the only club interested in Adarabioyo, though, with The Mirror recently claiming that Newcastle were keen on signing the 25-year-old defender, who this season has been a regular for Marco Silva in what has been a brilliant campaign for Fulham.

With Adarabioyo’s contract expiring in 2024, though, there’s a good chance that Fulham could choose to cash in on the defender with his stock as high as it could ever be for the west London side, and for Inter, the former England youth international could be an ideal alternative to Smalling.

Indeed, Adarabioyo is eight years younger than the former Manchester United star and has the potential to thrive in Serie A, much like Smalling himself and fellow England star Fikayo Tomori. And the prospect of playing for a club as big as Inter will be an alluring one for the Fulham centre-back.

As for Newcastle, whilst there might be some concrete interest in Adarabioyo, Eddie Howe’s defensive record this season has shown that the Magpies coach has everything nailed down, with the backline as near perfect as the English coach can get it for the St. James Park side.

Adarabioyo has been in impressive form for Fulham this campaign and has rightly been lauded for his performances, with Pep Guardiola hailing the defender as ‘exceptional’. Yet with Inter now interested in the defender, the 25-year-old should be leaping at the chance to sign for the Italian giants.

After all, it is likely that signing for Inter will be Adarabioyo’s best chance ever to play UEFA Champions League football, and with the San Siro side keeping tabs on the defender as an alternative to Smalling, the Fulahm star must jump at the opportunity to move to Milan.
