Italian press reports state that struggling Inter have redoubled their efforts to sign Southampton striker Pablo Daniel Osvaldo.
Inter’s disappointing season continues with a 1-0 defeat to Lazio and the Nerazzurri are reportedly turning their attentions to Southampton’s Pablo Daniel Osvaldo in the search for reinforcements.
New Inter owner Erick Thohir hasn’t enjoyed a honeymoon period in charge of the club and is expected to go in search of some new faces to assist coach Walter Mazzarri.
A number of top players are said to be on Inter’s radar but the name of Osvaldo has recurred frequently over the last month.
Lamela was always likely to be a long shot given the vast sum Spurs paid for him last summer and a permanent deal for Mata seems to be beyond Thohir’s finances too.
But Osvaldo could be a more realistic immediate target and the Turin-based newspaper insists Inter are ready with an offer to take the Italian international on loan with the right to make the deal permanent for £12.4m at the end of the season.
Osvaldo hasn’t had the best of times at Southampton but enjoyed something of a return to form in December. However, he is set to miss three games after receiving a ban for a touchline brawl during the game with Newcastle United after a late Morgan Schneiderlin challenge.
There have been suggestions that the explosive talent is keen to return to Serie A where he has spent most of his career and made his name at Roma between 2011 and 2013.
