Antonio Conte’s expected departure from Tottenham Hotspur could see Ivan Perisic return to Inter Milan. But the Serie A side will only sign the winger this summer in a free transfer.

That is according to CalcioMercatoWeb, which reports that Inter Milan are monitoring how Conte’s situation at Spurs now develops. The Italian will be out of contract in north London this June. But it is increasingly likely that Spurs sack their head coach before his deal ends.

Tottenham firing Conte could have further consequences on Perisic’s future, though. He is not enamoured with the prospect of playing for the Premier League side if the Italian is not at the helm next season. So, the 34-year-old may consider returning to Inter Milan already.

Inter Milan will only re-sign Ivan Perisic in a free transfer from Tottenham

Perisic only joined Tottenham in a free transfer last May after his contract with Inter Milan expired. The switch marked a reunion with Conte for the Croatian having won the Serie A title together in 2020/21. But the Nerazzurri are more to Perisic than just his former team.

The attacker considered San Siro his home and the Serie A side his family. So, Perisic will now consider a transfer back to Inter Milan if Conte leaves Tottenham. Yet the Nerazzurri’s finances may hinder their position with the club likely only able to swoop without any fees.

Ivan Perisic wants to leave Tottenham with Antonio Conte set to depart

Inter Milan chairman Giuseppe Marotta and sporting director Piero Ausilio would consider Perisic’s return from Tottenham in a free transfer. The Split-born star spent seven years at San Siro and penned 55 goals plus 49 assists in 254 appearances across all competitions.

The winger has so far offered Spurs just one goal but nine assists through 36 appearances. Yet Marco Barzaghi also reports that Perisic would like a transfer back to Inter Milan as he understands Conte will leave Tottenham. The Croatian’s contract at Spurs runs until 2024.
