Inter Milan will reportedly look to sell rumoured Tottenham target Denzel Dumfries in the summer in order to keep Nicolo Barella, who is wanted by Liverpool.

According to FC Inter News, the Nerazzuri are keen to retain their star midfielder this summer amid growing interest from Liverpool. However, with Inter needing to recoup at least €60m (£53m) in the transfer window, the Italian giants will look to sell Dumfries as their major sale for the year.

And according to CalcioMercatoWeb, Tottenham could be a potential buyer for the Dutch international, with Antonio Conte a big fan of Dumfries as Inter are now looking to sell their star defender, which could result in Liverpool missing out on Barella.

The Italian international has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool in recent weeks, with Jurgen Klopp eager to add to the midfield this summer in what is being billed as a huge rebuild from the Merseyside club. Yet Tottenham could now throw a big spanner in the works.

Indeed, Barella could be a perfect midfield signing for Liverpool given how badly the Reds need creative quality in the position, but if their Premier League rivals are to sign Dumfries, that could be enough for Inter to close up shop on any deal regarding the 26-year-old maestro.

As we know, the former Cagliari star is one of Inter’s best players and an influential figure at the San Siro side, and Simone Inzaghi’s logic behind preferring to sell Dumfries than the Italian midfielder makes a lot of sense, much to Liverpool’s dismay this summer.

Barella’s value to Inter is greater than Dumfries, and with Tottenham interested in the right-back, selling the defender to keep hold of the midfielder could be genius by the Nerazzurri, as well as it being a move that could infuriate a European rival in Liverpool.

Whilst the Reds could still make a monstrous offer to sign Barella if Dumfries is to leave, Liverpool might not be in a position to match Inter’s demands if they have made their money back this summer on offloading their Dutch superstar to the Premier League.
