Inter Milan president Erick Thohir has suggested that Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure is not a transfer target for the Serie A giants.
Inter Milan president Erick Thohir has hinted to Mediaset Premium that Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure is not a player registering on his transfer radar.
Inter boss Roberto Mancini, who worked with Toure during his time in charge at the Etihad Stadium, expressed his admiration of the Ivorian to Gazzetta dello Sport on Saturday.
His comments sparked rumours that an approach from Italy could be imminent, with Mancini open to a reunion at the San Siro.
Thohir is the man in control of the purse strings at Inter, though, and he appears to be unconvinced by the mooted deal.
He is planning long-term with the Serie A giants and believes Toure, at the age of 31, would be more of a short-term fix.
Thohir told Mediaset Premium: “Yaya Toure? He is a great player, but you have to wonder if bringing him to our team is the right thing to do. We want to sign players for at least three years, not two. We have young players like Kovacic as well as experienced players like Medel and Hernanes. Our purchases must be necessary for the team.”
| Season | Goals | Goal Assist | Total Tackle | Duel Won | Total Contest | Total Pass | Appearances | Mins Played | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Yaya Touré | 2014-2015 | 7 | 1 | 20 | 87 | 36 | 1,592 | 18 | 1,523 |
Inter have been busy during the winter window, with deals tied up for Lukas Podolski, Xherdan Shaqiri and Marcelo Brozovic.
The trio mentioned above are all under the age of 30, with Shaqiri and Brozovic in their early 20s.
They are players charged with the task of carrying Inter forward and Thohir is eager to ensure that any further additions have the potential to become club stalwarts and aid their quest to hit future targets.
