Reports claim Inter Milan would have to sell Everton target Marcelo Brozovic if they land Steven N’Zonzi from Sevilla.
As fans of Blackburn Rovers and Stoke City will tell you, Steven N’Zonzi has always had talent. Just how much, however, has taken everyone by surprise.
After a stellar season with Sevilla, helping them finish fourth in La Liga after prolonged flirtation with a title bid, the uncapped Frenchman is at the centre of a tug-of-war between two of Italy’s most successful clubs.
N’Zonzi completed more passes than any other player in La Liga last season
Though Inter have the backing of wealthy Chinese owners, the Suning Group, they would need to sell in order to fund the big-money move and comply with Financial Fair Play restrictions.
Therefore, the report adds that N’Zonzi swapping Sevilla for the San Siro means they will be forced to sell Marcelo Brozovic this summer.
And that could be good news for Everton. The Croatian, who did not have his best season at Inter after falling out with Frank de Boer and failing to find a consistent place in the starting XI under successor Stefano Pioli, was the subject of a £16 million bid from Everton last month, according to The Sun.
Marcelo Brozovic started just 20 Serie A games last season
The report added that Inter would be willing to accept £20 million but if N’Zonzi arrives, which is a possibility given that Juve appear to be getting cold feet, Brozovic’s exit would be almost inevitable.
And a sixth signing of the summer would push Everton over the £100 million bracket.
