Inter Milan are reportedly moving for Everton target Stefan de Vrij.
According to Calciomercato, Inter Milan have now offered a huge deal to Lazio defender Stefan de Vrij, who is out of contract at the end of the season.
De Vrij, 26, has been a mainstay of the Lazio side ever since his 2014 move from Feyenoord, with the centre back emerging as a top Serie A star despite a major knee injury.
Now though, Lazio are facing up to the prospect of losing De Vrij this summer, as the defender is out of contract – and has so far refused to sign a new one.
Calciomercato report that Lazio’s last offer was for just one more year, offering him €2.5million (£42,500-a-week), and De Vrij’s rejection means Inter Milan are hoping to swoop in.
It’s claimed that Inter are offering a €4million a year over five years to De Vrij, meaning he would earn £68,000-a-week at the San Siro – and that could all be interesting to Everton.
The Liverpool Echo recently reported that Everton are keen on De Vrij to boost their defensive options, with director of football Steve Walsh understood to be a big fan, and he allegedly put the Dutchman’s name to Allardyce.
No January move materialised, but Everton can now land De Vrij for nothing this summer, and that may be hugely appealing to the Toffees, who have seen Michael Keane fail to really live up to expectations this term, whilst loanee Eliaquim Mangala will be out with a long-term knee injury.
With Farhad Moshiri’s backing, Everton can blow Inter’s £68,000-a-week bid out of the water and comfortably push towards £100,000-a-week, and that would surely help the Toffees pull off a major coup and land one of Europe’s top centre backs ahead of an Italian giant.
