Brighton & Hove Albion could be about to pull off another midfield signing this summer after the arrival of Mats Wieffer.
Following Roberto De Zerbi’s departure from Brighton & Hove Albion at the end of the 2023/24 season, the Seagulls decided on Fabian Hurzeler as a replacement.
Hurzeler has been quick to get his feet under the table at the AMEX Stadium with the signing of Feyenoord midfielder Mats Wieffer already being completed early in the summer transfer window.
The signing of the Dutch midfielder looks to be one of the more surprise addition of the summer and sources have told HITC that Liverpool were one of the sides interested in Wieffer.
Diego Gomez confirms talks are being held with Brighton
The signing of another midfielder could well be on the cards with Inter Miami’s Diego Gomez, 21, reportedly being eyed up by those on the South Coast.
Gomez has been linked with a move to Brighton for the majority of this summer transfer window and the Paraguayan has now spoken about the possibility of moving to the AMEX Stadium.
“My representative is speaking with the club here in Brighton about a possible move, Gomez told South American outlet Versus.
“I came here (Inter Miami) to make the jump to Europe; I hope it happens to me. Let it be what god wants.”
The 21-year-old has seen his reputation grow since moving to the MLS club from Libertad back in the summer of 2023 as he netted four goals and provided seven assists for Miami.
Inter Miami’s president Chris Henderson hailed Gomez as a ‘well-rounded midfielder’ and he could be a good addition for the South Coast club.
Brighton could be looking at potential replacement for Pascal Gross
The potential signing of another midfielder for Hurzeler’s side seems strange but the future of Pascal Gross could be a key reason behind this move.
Sources have told HITC that Borussia Dortmund are confident of signing Gross this summer and a move to the Signal Iduna Park is something he would like to do.
Hurzeler was coy when asked about the future of Gross last week but the 33-year-old, who was selected for Germany’s Euro 2024 squad, could well be on the move this summer.
