Inter director discusses possibility of signing Liverpool flop Balotelli

Inter vice-president Javier Zanetti has praised Liverpool flop Mario Balotelli, but admits it would be tough to sign him at the moment.

Liverpool’s gamble on Mario Balotelli seems to be a failed one and there are suggestions that he could head back to Italy sooner rather than later.

Some eyebrows were raised when Liverpool chose to pay AC Milan £16 million for the enigmatic Super Mario and the striker’s doubters seem to have been proven correct.

But Balotelli’s natural talent and past glories will always guarantee he has potential suitors and former side Inter have been linked with an audacious swoop.

Balotelli cut his teeth at Inter where he played between 2007 and 2010, showing brilliance and arrogance in equal measure but netting 20 goals in 59 games.

Inter are currently painfully short of striking options and the return of Balotelli would be welcomed by many who still remember his explosive talent fondly, but a move could be tricky.

“Will Balotelli return? Everyone knows that Balotelli is a great player, but I think it would be difficult because he has only just arrived at Liverpool,” Inter legend and current vice-president Javier Zanetti told journalists.

“After our game against Lazio we will have a talk to try and work out what we need.”

Inter play Lazio on December 21 before beginning their winter break, which runs until January 6 and will give the club a chance to draw up their transfer strategy.

A move for Balotelli appears unlikely, but a loan isn’t entirely out of the question if the player and his current club are both ready to cut their losses.
