After a tough week in the Premier League title race and the Champions League, Arsenal were back on the horse on Saturday.

With Manchester City in FA Cup action, and Liverpool to face Fulham on Sunday, Arsenal knew three points against Wolves would send them top of the table.

It was always going to be a grind because of the number of games the team is playing, with Arsenal losing to Bayern Munich on Wednesday and ending their dreams in the Champions League.

Not only did the team secure all three points against a resilient Wolves side, but they also registered a valuable and deserved clean sheet.

Yes, the title is still in the hands of the Treble winners, but Arsenal have now put a bit of pressure back on their rivals, who beat Chelsea 1-0 on Saturday to reach the FA Cup final.

Goals from Leandro Trossard and captain Martin Odegaard sealed the deal for the title-chasers, with both goals coming towards the end of each half.

Martin Keown was sure to offer his flowers to Odegaard and his ‘cheeky’ finish in stoppage time which sealed the cherry on top of the cake, as he told Premier League Productions (20/04/24 at 9:35 pm).

The legendary defender also shared how the £240k-a-week Arsenal captain was ‘instrumental in everything’ the team did.

Martin Odegaard helps Arsenal beat Wolves

“We know with Martin (Odegaard), he just keeps going,” said Keown. “He is a player who is instrumental in everything they do with the press and his creativity.

“Fair play to him, he kept going and a cute little finish. I wonder if the goalkeeper maybe should have done better. It’s just a cheeky finish there. Okay, it’s the end of the game and he might have thought he was going to kill it, but he just saw an opportunity to finish this game off completely.

“Lovely finish. There is hardly any area to get that through, so fair play to him!”

Chelsea and Tottenham

When Arsenal are on a roll, winning six, seven and eight games on the bounce, or 3-0 up after 60 minutes, it’s easier playing at the top of your game.

The biggest test comes when you have been knocked down and Arsenal have suffered that during the past week.

So, if they can pick themselves up, like they did against Wolves and follow it up by beating Chelsea and Tottenham, then it really will say a lot about the team and its character.

This forthcoming week is going to be huge for Arsenal, including a tasty north London derby, and you just wonder, if they claim maximum points, whether it will make disgruntled fans believe again that they can become champions.
