Tottenham Hotspur spent most of January trying to lure Adama Traore to North London.
And with a relatively dismal record for goals and assists, it’s strictly the Spain international’s speed that intrigued Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici.
In the end, Tottenham failed to sign the Wolves winger, who joined Barcelona on loan.
However, Spurs could yet sign the centre-back equivalent of the player – well, in terms of pace and acceleration.
In December, Eurosport reported that the Lilywhites were interested in signing Antonio Rudiger.
Rudiger is set to leave Chelsea on a free transfer at the end of the season.
And incredibly, the Germany international has been the Premier League’s quickest player this season – and yes, even faster than Traore.
According to Opta, Rudiger has the highest top speed on record this season, clocking 36.7 kilometres per hour.
That’s enough to edge out Traore and Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, whose top speed was 36.6 km/h.
Bonkers
It’s frankly insane that a central defender has been the Premier League’s quickest player this season and that’s even more reason for Tottenham to sign him.
Let’s not forget, Rudiger has been exceptionally good in West London since Thomas Tuchel took charge of the Blues.
And the fact that he’s also something of a speed demon will only enhance interest.
