Darren Ambrose thinks it’s ‘insane business’ from Daniel Levy and Tottenham Hotspur to sell Harry Winks and bring in James Maddison.

Whilst they weren’t part of the same deal, Harry Winks headed to Leicester City this summer following their relegation to the championship.

Meanwhile, James Maddison went the other way and signed for Tottenham, with Ambrose claiming that you have ‘essentially’ paid ‘£30 million’ for Spurs’ new man because of the ‘£10 million’ deal for Winks, as he told talkSPORT.

In recent years, Levy has been on the end of a lot of verbal beatings for the running of the club and the lack of forward nature in the transfer market.

Well, Spurs fans can’t really argue now because a number of boxes are being ticked and it seems as though there is more to come in the transfer market.

Of course, you can only judge until Ange Postecoglou has the team out on the pitch, but for now, Ambrose says ‘credit where it’s due’.

“From a Spurs supporter, that means £10 million for Harry Winks,” said Ambrose. “You are essentially getting Maddison for £30 million, that’s insane business.

“A bit of credit where it’s due. That’s a great signing from Tottenham.”

Winks and Maddison head down different roads

A number of years ago, Maddison was in the Championship, in the colours of Norwich City, trying to make a name for himself.

In the meantime, Winks was flying under Mauricio Pochettino at Spurs, which was earning him England caps.

But fast forward to the present and the roles have been revered, with Maddison now flying high, looking forward to being part of England’s Euro 2024 trip next summer, as Winks aims to pick up a career that has fallen off a cliff during the past few years.
