Leeds are without Liam Cooper and Matthew Pennington currently so should seal a deal for Bristol City defender Aden Flint.

Leeds United fielded a makeshift defence during their 0-0 Championship draw with Fulham on Tuesday that once again saw Conor Shaughnessy fill in at the back.

Shaughnessy lined up alongside Pontus Jansson due to injuries to both Matthew Pennington and Liam Cooper and while the Whites kept a second successive clean-sheet, it still highlighted the need for recruitment.

Meanwhile, Bristol City once again left Aden Flint out of their match day squad as they drew 2-2 at Brentford, with speculation continuing over the centre-back’s future at Ashton Gate.

Robins manager Lee Johnson confirmed to BBC Bristol that the South West club have already rejected two bids for Flint from Birmingham City, with Harry Redknapp then telling the Birmingham Mail that the Blues are no longer in the chase.

Leeds were also linked with the 28-year-old by the Mirror in July and it is believed Johnson has paved the way for the defender’s exit by signing Nathan Baker from Aston Villa.

The Yorkshire club are also reported by the Mirror to be interested in Brentford’s Harlee Dean, but face a fight with Hull City and Sheffield Wednesday for the 26-year-old’s signature.

Thomas Christiansen desperately needs support at the back and with Birmingham out of the race and no other known competition, surely this the perfect time for the Dane to snap up Flint and take some of the pressure off Jansson?
