Tottenham Hotspur are among the sides reported to be interested in Danny Ings, with the Mirror reporting the striker is set to leave Liverpool.

What Spurs need?

Tottenham are still searching for an adequate backup for Harry Kane with both Vincent Janssen and Fernando Llorente having failed to fill the role over the past two years.

Yet is Ings really that man, with four goals in 25 appearances for the Reds since 2015 and unlikely to get consistent game time in North London with Kane clearly the first choice in the number nine role?

Not that the Englishman is a bad player, but signing him would see Spurs make the same mistake as they did with Janssen and Llorente. Rather than targeting someone in a similar mould to Kane, but lacking the quality, they need a forward who operates in a different style.

That is why reports from the Mirror linking them with a move for Manchester United’s Anthony Martial make much more sense.
