Ings comments suggest summer pursuit would be futile for Newcastle

Newcastle United reportedly wanted to sign Liverpool’s Danny Ings in the January transfer window.

Liverpool forward Danny Ings has suggested to The Express that he does not want to leave the club in the January transfer window.

Ings told The Express: “I just needed time to adapt and get up to the levels that he needed me at physically.

“I feel like I’m there now and hopefully I can move on and contribute to the team as much as I can. This is a great club and I would be silly if I wanted to be anywhere else.”

Summer pursuit futile for Newcastle United

According to The Chronicle, Newcastle United wanted to sign Ings from Liverpool in January.

The Magpies reportedly enquired to sign the 25-year-old former Burnley forward on loan.

As Ings decided to remain at Anfield, Newcastle signed Islam Slimani on loan from Leicester City in the January transfer window, but the 29-year-old Algeria international striker has yet to make a competitive appearance for the Magpies.

From Ings’s comments, it seems that it would be futile for the Magpies if they go back for the England international, who clearly wants to stay at Liverpool.

The former Bournemouth forward, who earns £60,000 per week as salary at Liverpool according to The Express, is under contract at Liverpool until June 2020, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk.

Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez would be better off looking at other strikers in the summer of 2018, and Ings’s aforementioned comments should persuade him not to make a move again for the Liverpool forward.
