Speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast, Duncan Castles has claimed that Liverpool are open to selling Divock Origi and buying a like-for-like replacement in January.

Origi has been the man of the moment for Liverpool over the past couple of weeks. He netted winning goals against both Wolves and AC Milan before missing out on the Aston Villa game with injury.

However, despite Origi’s heroics, Castles is led to believe that the Reds are open to selling the Belgian.

What’s been said about Origi?

Castles shared what he knows about Liverpool’s transfer plans.

“The information I have on what Liverpool want to do in this window is not focused on centre-backs. It’s a forward, a top-quality quick forward and maybe reinforcement in the midfield,” Castles said.

“Additionally there’s the idea that if they get a taker for Divock Origi in this window at the right price that they will go and get a centre-forward of Origi’s type to do as Origi has been doing and to be that player who they use in certain circumstances and in moments where they need to rescue games.”

Not easy

It’s all well and good for Liverpool to have the idea of selling Origi and replacing him with another player who can be a super sub, but that’s not an easy task.

Rio Ferdinand stated earlier this week that only certain players can come off the bench like Origi does, and it won’t be easy for the Merseyside club to find another player like that.

Origi is more than happy to play that role as a rotation option, and we can’t imagine there are many quality players out there who will happily be third or fourth choice.

Liverpool may want to think twice before letting Origi go. After all, there’s a reason Jurgen Klopp has called him a ‘legend’.
