Leeds United signing replaced in Albania by one of their more infamous recent flops.
Leeds United made the left-field move to sign Caleb Ekuban this summer, who spent last season starring for Albanian side Partizan Tirana.
Ekuban was on loan from Chievo and enjoyed a prolific spell in front of goal, netting 17 times in 34 games.
But after losing Ekuban, Partizan Tirana were left with a big gap to fill up front.
They did bring in a striker, one whose name will ring familiar with Leeds United fans – Edgar Cani.
Leeds signed Cani on loan in 2015 from Catania, even though head coach Neil Redfearn was none too keen on the deal, and he barely made an impact.
Cani played four times and did not score, nor look even close to netting.
He is regarded as one of the worst signings by Leeds in recent years, for which there is heavy competition, and a product of the unpredictable era of Massimo Cellino ownership.
Cani headed back to Italy, where he scored six goals in Serie C, and last season two goals in 33 Serie B appearances.
He has now headed back to his homeland, signing with Partizan Tirana as Caleb Ekuban’s replacement.
The 28-year-old has started reasonably enough, netting one goal in three games.
How well he does, could put Ekuban’s strike rate in context.
So far the new Leeds man has netted once, but missed the last month with injury.
