Ruben Amorim’s position at Manchester United is under the microscope, much earlier than anyone expected, following the shock Carabao Cup exit to Grimsby Town.
That scrutiny has only intensified after his post-match comments, where he appeared to question whether his players were still behind him.

It’s a sharp turnaround from what had been a promising start to the season. With an international break coming up after the Burnley match, there’s time for reflection on how things have unfolded.
Where Ineos stand on Amorim’s position at Man Utd
Amorim has overseen the worst tenure in Man Utd’s Premier League history, which is some doing, considering they’ve broken all sorts of wrong records since Sir Alex retired.
Despite that, last season was effectively treated as a free hit for him. However, that only served to ramp up the pressure this season, and a winless start to the season has put it up to max.

Amorim sounded like a defeated man after the elimination at the hands of Grimsby, and United in Focus, speaking to insider Graeme Bailey, can now reveal the mood at Ineos currently.
“They point out the likes of Cunha and Mbeumo didn’t just want to play for United but also Amorim. United still believe he is one of the best coaches in Europe – no doubt.”
Ineos need to hold their nerve
It’s easy to point fingers at Amorim for being stubborn with his style or mishandling certain players, but the situation isn’t quite that straightforward.
Across all three matches so far, United have created enough chances. The issue has been finishing them off. It’s not as if they’ve been completely outplayed.

A missed penalty against Fulham or a couple of goals taken against Arsenal would have shifted the conversation entirely.
United can’t afford to repeat past mistakes by cycling through managers every time results dip. That approach has only made things worse in the long run, giving players more reason to switch off.
Ineos have backed Amorim fully and now need to stick with that decision. The underlying numbers hint that better results might not be far away.
It’s a moment where patience is needed. Sacking Amorim now would only add another name to a growing list without addressing the bigger issues at play.
