Gabriel Jesus is the main striker at Arsenal, but for Brazil, it is often Tottenham Hotspur forward Richarlison who gets the nod ahead of him in the starting lineup.

That was the case when Brazil took on Venezuela in a 2026 World Cup qualifier on Thursday.

The match ended in a 1-1 draw.

Tottenham Hotspur forward Richarlison started the match for Brazil.

Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus was on the bench.

Richarlison has not been at his best for Spurs for a while, and he struggled to make an impact for Brazil.

The Spurs forward came off in the 59th minute.

Media verdict on Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus for Brazil vs Venezuela

Arsenal star Jesus came on.

The £265,000-a-week (Spotrac) star did not fare much better either and has been criticised in the local Brazilian media.

Globo has given Jesus 5.5 out of 10 and has noted: “Striving.

“He ran the whole field and even made a challenge in front of the Brazil defence.

“Up front, he was ineffective.”

My View: Gabriel Jesus needs to score more goals

In my opinion, Arsenal and Brazil international striker Gabriel Jesus needs to score more goals.

After all, Jesus is a ‘striker’.

True, the Brazilian can and does play wide, but his job in the team is to score goals.

I think that the former Manchester City striker simply does not score enough.

Jesus has scored just 19 goals in 61 appearances for Brazil so far in his career.

The striker has made 191 appearances in the Premier League.

Jesus has scored 70 goals and given 35 assists in those games.
