Reported Rangers target Niklas Dorsch has officially completed his move to KAA Gent, with the club’s sporting director admitting to the official website that he is ‘incredibly satisfied’ to get a £3 million deal across the line at last.
After Heidenheim lost on away goals to Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga’s relegation play-off, it always seemed very unlikely that a former Bayern Munich youngster would be sticking around at the second-tier outfit.
InFranken reported in May that Rangers were keen to add a cultured and classy deep-lying play-maker to Steven Gerrard’s squad.
But, despite given the opportunity to unlock his potential under one of the finest midfielders of the 21st century, Dorsch has instead opted to join a Gent side who finished second in the Belgian top flight last season.
“I am incredibly satisfied that we can bring Niklas to Gent,” sporting director Tim Matthys says, clearly thrilled with an acquisition which should close the gap between the Jupiler League runners-up and champions Club Brugge.
“This makes me very happy.
“Niklas has played at a very high level in Germany for the last two years and is ready to take the next step in his career. Niklas is a technically very skilled player and combines this with a good dose of healthy aggression.”
Get German Football News reports that Dorsch, who scored on his Bundesliga debut for Bayern before moving away from the Allianz Arena, has signed a four-year deal after a £3 million transfer was agreed.
There is some consolation for Rangers fans, however.
After all, midfield is the strongest area of Gerrard’s squad with Joe Aribo, Ryan Jack, Glen Kamara, Steven Davis and youngster Jamie Barjonas all competing for a place in the starting XI.
Speaking to Goal recently, former Bayern coach Heiko Vogel compared Dorsch to German legends Lothar Matthaus and Toni Kroos due to his pinpoint passing ability.
