LASK Linz coach Dominik Thalhammer has paid tribute to a Tottenham Hotspur team who showed glimpses of their “incredibly high level of quality” during Thursday’s 3-0 Europa League win in north London, speaking to LAOLA1.

Jose Mourinho’s side may not have strayed out of second gear on the night but, in truth, they didn’t need to.

This game was all about conserving energy, giving fringe players a run out and securing three important points in a professional and commanding manner.

A star showing from Carlos Vinicius on his first Tottenham start certainly helped. The Benfica loanee set up strikes for Lucas Moura and Heung Min Son either side of a Gareth Bale-forced own goal from Andres Andrade.

And Thalhammer had no complaints at full-time after the Austrians were swept aside.

“You have to acknowledge Tottenham is actually a Champions League team,” said a man who spent nine years in charge of the Austria women’s international team.

“It’s a team that was in the Champions League final a year and a half ago. They have an incredibly high level of individual quality. You have to acknowledge that.”

In a game full of positives, Davinson Sanchez put that West Ham disaster behind him with a convincing display at centre-half while Joe Hart, in only his third Tottenham appearance, pulled off one terrific first-half save.

Vinicius and Bale looked sharp in attack too and, with more minutes under their belt, the summer signings should give Mourinho plenty of selection headaches in the weeks to come.
