Speaking to Liverpool’s official club website, Virgil van Dijk has been full of praise for Diogo Jota.
The Portuguese attacker is enjoying an absolutely brilliant season for the Reds. He’s now scored 12 league goals, and if it weren’t for Mohamed Salah, he’d be the top goalscorer in the Premier League.
However, while Jota is finding the back of the net on a regular basis, van Dijk has actually praised him for his defensive ability.
What’s van Dijk said?
The Dutchman had nothing but good things to say about Jota.
“I think he’s a fantastic player. He’s just so lively,” Van Dijk said.
“He runs through people at times and it’s very difficult to defend because he’s very opportunistic. He goes and takes risks and also his pressing and defending is incredible.”

The best form of defence
The old adage is that attack is the best form of defence, and Jota certainly proves that this saying applies to football.
The Portuguese forward is absolutely brilliant at defending from the front. He’s always harrying defenders and forcing them into mistakes, while many of his goals are scored from either himself or one of his teammates winning the ball high up the pitch.
Jota may not be a defender, but he’s still brilliant at defending.
