Tim Sherwood has stated that it’s ‘incredible’ that Virgil van Dijk hasn’t lost at Anfield yet after Liverpool’s 6-0 win against Leeds on Wednesday night, as he told Premier League Productions (23/02/22 at 9:55 pm).

The TV pundit was told about Van Dijk equalling Lee Sharpe’s record of not losing in 59 league games on home soil.

Van Dijk has played 59 games at Anfield, he has won a quite stunning 50 of those matches and drawn the rest.

That world-record fee Liverpool paid Southampton back in 2018 is sure looking like quite the bargain now.

After the game, Sherwood labelled Van Dijk as the ‘boss’ of Liverpool and praised his character.

“Do we think he was value for money now?” Sherwood said in a sarcastic manner.

“He doesn’t know what it’s like to lose. How can you not know what it’s like to lose on your home ground? It’s incredible not losing in 59 games. Amazing.

“The guy is just a Rolls-Royce. He just oozes confidence. I think when teammates look at someone like him, lining up in that tunnel coming out to play, it doesn’t matter who they play against.

“He knows he’s the boss. He’s the guvnor. It’s up to you lot to come with me.”

There is probably no one in world football that plays the game with such ease and a high level of quality.

As Inter’s much sought-after forward, Lautaro Martinez, proved in the Champions League last week, players are scared before they even take Van Dijk on.

During Liverpool’s 2-0 win at the San Siro, Martinez had the chance to take the ice-cool Dutchman on when one v one.

Van Dijk even showed him down the line, but Martinez opted against trying him on and instead turned back because he probably knew what the outcome was going to be.

That’s probably one of Van Dijk’s biggest assets and that’s the fact that he has players beaten before they even step in front of him.
