Arsenal fans absolutely loved seeing Santi Cazorla celebrating after Villarreal’s Europa League triumph last night.
Arsenal hero Cazorla was in the crowd as his former side beat Manchester United on penalties to lift their first European crown.
When Cazorla had been at Arsenal, he saw the Gunners progress to the Europa League semi-final, but they could not get over the line.
It is now Villarreal who are the first of his former sides to lift a European cup.
And Cazorla was hoisted up in the air on the pitch by his old teammates, in scenes which left Arsenal fans feeling very emotional.
Cazorla remains a hugely popular figure at Arsenal after his six year stint at the club.
The Gunners’ may have had mixed emotions after watching Villarreal lift the trophy last night though.
Arsenal were knocked out of the competition by Unai Emery’s men in the semi-finals, and there must have been some sense of what might have been for Mikel Arteta.
United did not find anywhere near their best quality in Gdansk yesterday, and if Arsenal could have made it to the final then there may have been a chance that it would have been them celebrating their first European triumph.
