Rangers boss Steven Gerrard stated on his Instagram story that Steven Davis’ record-breaking international appearance record is ‘incredible’.
On Wednesday night, the Rangers and Northern Ireland midfielder moved past England great, Peter Shilton, as the highest appearance maker for a British player on the international stage with 126 caps.
Whilst Northern Ireland recorded a goalless draw in their World Cup qualifier against Bulgaria, it was a night to remember for the former Premier League man.
Of course, Davis would have preferred the three points for his country rather than the recognition last night, but at least it didn’t end in defeat.
But now, Davis has his name up in lights with some of the best and he will be sure to add to his record-breaking number.
This is what his Rangers boss wrote on his Instagram story last night when he broke the record:
“Incredible achievement,” wrote Gerrard. “Congrats Davo.”
From starting off at Aston Villa to helping Rangers stop Celtic’s charge for the ten, Davis has been an underrated figure during his career.
With the ability to control the game, both from deep and further up the field, pick out a pass, find space when in attacking positions, score goals when running from deep and defend his back four, he has had the all-round package during his carer.
