The Frenchman produced a season’s best tally in one key area against Sunderland.

Benjamin Stambouli was widely praised for his midfield display against Sunderland on Saturday afternoon.

The Tottenham Hotspur star performed ably in the middle of the park for the second game in a week as he looks to stake a claim for a first-team birth under Mauricio Pochettino.

And there was one key statistic that showed just how much the 24-year-old stood out from the crowd during what was a solid display in central midfield.

Indeed, as Opta stats show, Stambouli won more than twice as many tackles as any other Tottenham player at White Hart Lane.

And, as further data proves, the Frenchman’s tally of seven was a season-high for any member of Spurs’ squad. Not a bad way to make your mark and send a message to your manager, eh?

Stambouli got off to a slow start to his Tottenham career and, as little as a week ago, was producing a careless performance at Crystal Palace, when the 24-year-old needlessly gave away the penalty that changed the game in Palace’s favour.

There were no such slip-ups yesterday, though, and nor have there been any better tackling displays at White Hart Lane this term. Stambouli is most certainly starting to find his feet in north London.
