If Leeds United genuinely wanted Liverpool’s Takumi Minamino in January, they can definitely get him this summer.

On transfer deadline day in January, Leeds tried and failed to bring the Japan international to Elland Road.

Even when Liverpool signed Luis Diaz for £49 million toward the end of the window, it wasn’t enough to convince the Reds boss Jurgen Klopp that he should offload Minamino.

But if the West Yorkshire outfit are still keen, well a summer transfer is certainly plausible.

That’s because Minamino was omitted by Klopp for Liverpool’s Champions League tie with Benfica last night.

Reunion?

That right there illustrates that the German manager has no real long-term vision for the former Salzburg star at Anfield.

Klopp labelled the player ‘incredible‘ in early March but 86 minutes in the Premier League this season betrays any suggestion that the Liverpool boss is interested in keeping him.

If Leeds remain keen, a summer transfer is definitely possible – and particularly when you consider who’s pulling the strings at United these days.

Jesse Marsch is now the Whites’ manager, the same Jesse Marsch who Minamino dazzled under in Austria.

And that fact, combined with his omission from the squad last night, suggests a reunion could genuinely be on the cards come this summer.
