Trezeguet may have played his final game for Aston Villa already, as the winger is heading towards leaving in a permanent transfer at the climax of his loan with Istanbul Basaksehir.
That’s according to Birmingham Live, who report the Egyptian’s future in claret-and-blue is growing increasingly uncertain by the day. He is likely to be one of several who boss Steven Gerrard tries to offload at the end of the term, after moving quick to let him go in January.
Gerrard let Trezeguet leave Villa Park and join Basaksehir for the rest of the season on loan. The Super Lig side’s deal does not include an option to buy the 27-year-old. But it is highly unlikely he returns to Villa as this summer will be their last real chance at a slightly high fee.

Trezeguet enters the final year of his £47k-a-week contract this June. He signed the deal in 2019 after joining from Kasimpasa under Dean Smith. He arrived for £8.75m to add another dynamic wide presence. Yet often struggled to express himself to the forward’s best ability.
The 54-cap international also suffered an injury-plagued 2021, having sat out almost nine-months with a knee injury. He returned in December, but only played 10 Premier League minutes before returning to Turkey with Basaksehir following the Africa Cup of Nations.
Trezeguet heading towards permanent Aston Villa exit after Basaksehir loan
Gerrard is now likely to cut Aston Villa’s losses and sell Trezeguet during the next transfer window. The forward can strengthen both his pool of suitors and the Villans’ asking price by impressing with Basaksehir. He has so far scored three and assisted one in three games.

Trezeguet struck two of his three Basaksehir goals in 19-minutes to beat Caykur Rizespor 2-0 last month. But the forward was unable to secure another three-points despite scoring at home to Fatih Karagumruk on Saturday. His loan side now sit third in the Super Lig table.
Smith admired what Trezeguet could offer Aston Villa during his tenure in charge. The now-Norwich boss praised the Egyptian even when he failed to get on the scoresheet. Trezeguet has offered nine goals and five assists in 64 outings for Villa across all competitions so far.
“He came back in and showed us what he’s all about,” Smith told VillaTV of Trezeguet after helping the Villans win 3-0 at Arsenal in November 2020. “He’s very important. His running numbers are incredible. Tactically, he’s got so much better.”
