Everton beat Gor Mahia 2-1 in Tanzania this afternoon.

Everton’s pre-season preparations got off to a positive start, as they picked up a 2-1 win over Kenyan side Gor Mahia in Tanzania this afternoon.

The Toffees made the lengthy trip to Tanzania with a host of new signings in tow, though Jordan Pickford and Sandro Ramirez didn’t feature having played at the Under-21 European Championships earlier this summer.

One of Ronald Koeman’s new signings gave Everton against Gor Mahia, as Wayne Rooney – re-signed from Manchester United last weekend – rifled home a long-range strike.

Meddie Kagere pulled Gor Mahia level shortly after Rooney’s opener, but Everton did claim the victory when Kieran Dowell scored a long-range winner.

Rooney wasn’t the only new signing to feature for Everton, and whilst Michael Keane played the second half, the first half saw midfielder Davy Klaassen feature from the off.

Klaassen, 24, joined Everton from Ajax earlier this summer, and having hit 20 goals from midfield last season, many Toffees fans have been excited to see him in action.

Some called him ‘quality’ and ‘incredible’ on his first performance, and whilst it only came against Gor Mahia, fans were pleased with how much defensive work he put in as well as going forward.
