According to The Daily Star, Aston Villa are interested in signing Wilfred Ndidi from Leicester City.
Leicester aren’t having the best of seasons in the Premier League, and it sounds as though their squad could soon be picked apart.
Indeed, Youri Tielemans is being strongly linked with a move away from the King Power Stadium, while Villa are now chasing Ndid.
Steven Gerrard could pinch one of his former manager Brendan Rodgers’ best players, and interestingly, Rodgers has previously compared Ndidi to Gerrard.
What’s been said?
Rodgers compared Ndidi to Gerrard a few years ago.
“I’ve always had one in my teams – that sort of central pivot that orchestrates the game,” Rodgers said, as per the Leicester Mercury.
“I had Steven [Gerrard] do it for me at Liverpool and Leon Britton did it for me at Swansea, different types.
“I like to have a player in there but the three midfielders all have to be different for me.
“But you certainly need one who has the appetite to win the ball. They all have to press and be aggressive but how [Ndidi] wins the ball is incredible.
“He covers the ground, his anticipation of where the ball is going and how he reads it and the number of counter attacks he stopped today. A lot of what Bournemouth have done these last few years because you know the strengths of their team.
“We didn’t concede many counters and that was down to his tactical discipline with the two centre halves and with the full backs behind.”

Could work wonders
While Ndidi isn’t similar to a prime Steven Gerrard, the role the Englishman played under Rodgers was slightly different.
Gerrard played as a number 6 for the Northern Irishman, and that’s where Ndidi operates best.
Gerrard knows all about that role, and if he gets his hands on Ndidi, he could work wonders with the Nigerian.
This could be an amazing signing if Villa can pull it off.
