Quite a lot of West Ham United fans have already written off Sebastien Haller, but Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp certainly isn’t.
The 26-year-old joined the Hammers for an eye-watering £45 million back in the summer of 2019.
But by virtue of the fact that he has only managed eight Premier League goals since then, you could argue that West Ham haven’t exactly gotten bang for their buck.
The former Borussia Dortmund coach obviously keeps an eye on the Bundesliga since leaving his native Germany in 2015.
Haller netted 15 goals in 23 league starts during his last season at Eintracht Frankfurt.
And the Reds boss is well aware that although the Frenchman – who hasn’t started a Premier League game this season – is struggling for regular football, he could still hurt Liverpool at Anfield tonight given half the chance.
He told a pre-match press conference: “Even when you maybe don’t know him that good in England, but Haller – I know him from Germany and he played an incredible season or two seasons at Frankfurt and was an incredible striker.
“A different type but good footballer, quick enough as well, and physically, first of all, similarly strong, if not stronger, brilliant in the air and all these kind of things.”
Haller has appeared five times off the bench for the Irons in the Premier League this season, but has only managed 50 minutes in total.
We’re talking about a West Ham player who averages just 10 minutes per appearance.
But Liverpool have a full-blown crisis in central defence and maybe, just maybe, it would be smart for Moyes to start the 6’3 forward today.
