Peter Schmeichel has claimed that Everton’s Goodison Park was his favourite away ground as a player, as he told Sky Sports.

The Manchester United legend added that Goodison Park had the ‘best atmosphere’ and it’s stadiums like Everton’s that really wanted him to play the game in England.

With the Toffees battling relegation, their home form has kept them in England’s top-flight because, without it, they would already be doomed.

Under Rafa Benitez and Frank Lampard, they have only taken nine points away from home, three of those came recently at Leicester City.

Nonetheless, this is what Schmeichel said about Goodison Park, which their fans will love.

“I think the best atmosphere and I always love to go there because it was my first away game as well was Goodison Park,” said Schmeichel.

“Incredible, incredible. It was also my first away game and we draw them. I think we were in the FA Cup and in the League Cup against them.

“It was what I really, really wanted. To get to play at these stadiums and that was the first one and I was like ‘woah. This is what I really wanted to do’.”

EVERTON FANS HOPING TO ROAR THEIR TEAM TO SAFETY

One thing Lampard will want is to avoid his team going into the final day still needing something to survive.

They have two home games coming up – Brentford this afternoon and then Crystal Palace next week.

It can be done in a few hours time, but in truth, they will want it done by that Palace clash next Thursday night.

And if they do survive, and in truth they should now, then it will be a sigh of relief for all because this season has been an utter shambles.
