Everton’s Joao Virginia and Newcastle defender Federico Fernandez hailed the ‘incredible’ Emiliano Martinez on Instagram after he helped Aston Villa record a goalless draw at Brighton on Saturday.
It was a one-man show from Villa’s summer signing, who saved nine shots during the game and was the only player in Claret & Blue deserving of getting anything out of the match.
This was Martinez’s and Villa’s 12th clean sheet of the campaign – only Manchester City have kept more – and after 22 league games, he’s sure to add more to his name.
Nonetheless, when Martinez reacted on Instagram to Villa’s scrappy point last night, a number of players commented on his post.
Everton’s back-up shot-stopper Virginia simply wrote ‘incredible’, whilst Newcastle defender Fernandez replied with this message: ‘great game, as always, friend’.
Villa left-back Matt Targett, who played the entire game at the Amex Stadium, also added his pennies worth and said: ‘Brilliant bro’.
Whilst club legend Ian Taylor perhaps summed it up best by simply stating: ‘Spiderman’ added with fire emojis.
From an attacking point of view, it won’t be too much of a worry for Villa because this isn’t the norm for their attack to be blunt.
But their test will only be tougher next Sunday when they take on Premier League title challengers Leicester City.
