Brendan Rodgers was left raving about Cengiz Under’s ‘incredible’ first Leicester City goal in the Foxes’ 2-0 Europa League victory over AEK Athens on Thursday night, while speaking to the LCFC website.

The Turkey international might have squandered a couple of presentable opportunities in last week’s 1-0 loss to Zorya Luhansk, but there was to be no repeat of that profligacy in the final game of the group stage.

Under opened his account for Leicester with a thunderbolt of a volley, which exploded into the top corner of the AEK Athens net early on at the King Power.

It was the sort of magisterial quality reminiscent of the time when the quicksilver wide man was a rising Serie A star with AS Roma.

Leicester sealed the win just two minutes later when the electrifying Harvey Barnes danced through the visitors defence to fire in the second, via a substantial deflection.

And Rodgers was thrilled with the performances of his wing wonders.

“Cengo has got incredible technique. He strikes the ball so hard and so clean. I’m delighted for him. He gets 90 minutes as well, which is important,” the Northern Irishman said.

“Those two boys (Under and Barnes) were the threats in the game and when they picked the ball up, they were outstanding.

“Harvey’s goal was a great demonstration of running in behind and he finished really, really well. [There was] a slight deflection, but his run and movement was very good.

“We mentioned about making a quick start, and in the first 25 minutes, we played with a really good intensity and speed, and scored two quality goals with opportunities to score more.

“Our tempo was very good and the speed in our game was excellent.”

Leicester finished the group stage with four wins from six, topping the group as a result.

That, in theory, means they should land a winnable draw when the round of 32 fixtures are drawn on Monday lunchtime.
