Referee Paul Tierney won’t have received a Christmas card from Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp this past week.

The Liverpool boss confronted Tierney after his side’s 2-2 draw at Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.

Klopp was visibly furious over a number of decisions that the Premier League official gave against his Reds outfit at Spurs.

This weekend, Tierney was on VAR duty for Leicester City’s trip to Manchester City – and, well, Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers was upset with the referee, just like Klopp last week.

Rodgers’s side had an early penalty given against them following a VAR check by the referee, with the Northern Irishman vaguely referencing Tierney’s recent errors.

Here’s what Rodgers told Sky Sports: “It’s nowhere near a penalty. Paul Tierney is the VAR guy and a lot recently he’s missed out on physical contact, so to deem that a penalty, I find that incredible.”

Suffice to say Liverpool supporters will love seeing their former manager bring a further spotlight on Tierney’s judgement.

It stemmed from failing to send Spurs hitman Harry Kane off for a rash challenge on Andy Robertson – who later received a red card – and denying Diogo Jota a penalty after being barged in the back in the first half.

However, that’s in the past.

But the fact that he has frustrated another Premier League manager seven days later doesn’t reflect well on the official.
