Rodrigo Bentancur has shared that he didn’t think Dejan Kulusevski was going to pass him the ball during Tottenham Hotspur’s 4-3 win over Leeds United on Saturday.

Tottenham’s match-winner labelled the play and pass from Kulusevski as ‘incredible’ as Antonio Conte’s side went into the World Cup break ending their recent poor run of form.

Whilst Harry Kane scored his 12th Premier League goal of the season, it’s not the attackers that are proving to be the difference makers, but their unsung hero in Bentancur.

That’s five goals in all competitions for the Uruguay international this season – two more than he managed during his 181 games for Juventus.

Nonetheless, Bentancur admitted that he didn’t think Kulusevski would give him the ball at first for the winning goal on the day, before he timed it to perfection, as he told the club’s official Twitter account.

“Well, just as well, I didn’t think Kulu (Kulusevski) was going to give it to me (the ball),” said Bentancur. “Then he passed to me at the last moment.

“The truth is the first ball and then the play from Kulu was incredible. I just finished it off, and honestly, I am really happy with the goal.”

BENTANCUR IS TOTTENHAM’S BEST PLAYER

Harry Kane might have the goals, and Dejan Kulusevski might be a fan favourite and very much missed this season when he was injured.

But Bentancur is proving that he has been his side’s best player this season.

He was brought in for his hard-hitting tackling back in January, but he is supplying flair, the ability to carry the ball forward, a forward-thinking style and goals when he is out on the pitch.

Spurs are looking for that creative player, but perhaps they have that in Bentancur and they just need to let him push forward a lot more.
