Leeds United picked up a massive victory at Elland Road today.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side beat Burnley 3-1 thanks to a heroic effort in the last 15 minutes.

United have drawn seven Premier League games this season and this looked like potentially being another one.

But Stuart Dallas fired Leeds back ahead on 77 minutes, before Daniel James made sure of the three points in stoppage time.

In doing so, the Whites are now eight points clear of the Premier League’s relegation zone.

Elland Road erupted when Dallas scored – and even more so when James added a third.

And Michael Brown, speaking to BBC Sport, noticed a relieved Bielsa hugging his staff on the touchline in what he described as ‘incredible’ scenes at the stadium.

He said: “The reaction of the manager hugging his staff, realising what this goal means.

“Mateusz Klich has the ball on the right, I’m thinking game management, don’t cross… Dan James arrives at the back post. The celebrations at Elland Road are incredible.”

Context

In the context of Leeds’ season, this really was massive.

Prior to facing the Clarets, Bielsa’s side had only won three times since August.

It’s been a much more difficult second season back in the top flight for a Leeds side that simply aren’t anywhere near being the same outfit they were last term.

However, this victory puts clear daylight between them and the bottom three.

Eighteenth-placed Burnley do have two games in hand – one of which is home to Spurs – over the Yorkshire outfit but barring a capitulation, Leeds should now be thinking about climbing the table rather than not slipping down it.
