Andros Townsend raved about Tottenham Hotspur-owned Ryan Sessegnon on Sky Sports Football (7:43pm, March 28, 2021).

The Crystal Palace winger rates Sessegnon highly and praised the attributes of the 20-year-old, who can operate as a left-back or as a left-winger and joined Hoffenheim on loan from Tottenham in the summer of 2020.

The former Tottenham winger made the comments ahead of Sessegnon’s participation for the England Under-21 side against their Portuguese counterparts on Sunday evening.

Townsend said about Sessegnon on Sky Sports Football (7:43pm, March 28, 2021): “I think the main thing that stuck out when I used to watch him at Fulham in that season is his anticipation of where the ball was going to go was incredible.

“For a player of such a young age, I think he scored 15 or 20 goals that season, and most of them were within the width of the 18-yard box.”

Future at Tottenham Hotspur?

Sessegnon has not made a massive impact at Tottenham, and one can understand why then-manager Mauricio Pochettino decided to send the 20-year-old out on loan last summer.

The England Under-21 international is doing relatively well at Hoffenheim and has got a good amount of playing time.

According to WhoScored, the left-back has made 10 starts and five substitute appearances in the Bundesliga so far this season, scoring two goals and providing two assists in the process.

The youngster has also made three starts and two substitute appearances in the Europa League for Hoffenheim this campaign, according to WhoScored.

Sergio Reguilon and Ben Davies are the two main left-backs at Spurs, and while it is going to be hard for Sessegnon to get ahead of them in the pecking order, his ability to play as a left-winger could come handy.

Sessegnon’s ability to score goals could also be appealing to Tottenham head coach Jose Mourinho.

The Englishman scored five goals and provided three assists in the Championship for Fulham in 2016-17 and scored 16 goals and gave eight assists in the second division in 2017-18, according to WhoScored.
