Tottenham Hotspur’s Jose Mourinho has admitted to the club’s official Twitter account that both Giovani Lo Celso and Steven Bergwijn were ‘in trouble’ at half-time.
Lo Celso and Bergwijn were both taken off midway through Tottenham’s game against Bournemouth, with Spurs struggling to make any headway at Dean Court.
And Mourinho admits that some members of his side were very fatigued.
“I felt that some of the boys were really tired,” Mourinho said.
“I made a couple of changes, especially in midfield, because I felt that some of the boys there were really in trouble because of playing two days before.”
Lo Celso was indeed quiet in the first period for Tottenham, while Bergwijn wasn’t as lively as usual.
Tottenham improved marginally after the introduction of Tanguy Ndombele and Heung-Min Son, but they were hugely disappointing in the main.
Spurs didn’t even muster up a shot on target against the Cherries, as they failed to grab the three points.
Tottenham have been worryingly poor going forward of late, and have had just five shots on target in their last three games now.
Mourinho will need his side to show more attacking quality at the weekend, with the North London derby against Arsenal next up on Sunday.
