Liverpool midfielder James Milner has raved about Darwin Nunez on the club’s official website after the match against Southampton at Anfield in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

Nunez scored twice for Liverpool against Southampton today.

Jurgen Klopp’s side won 3-1.

Former Leeds United and Newcastle United star Milner has noted how good Nunez is in training and has full confidence in the young striker.

James Milner on Liverpool teammate Darwin Nunez

Milner said about Nunez: “Just watching him in training and his attributes, his willingness to work for the team, he is obviously great in the air, a big presence, great strike with both feet, he hits it early, wants to score goals.

“He is a different type of striker to the other guys up there and that’s obviously great for us as a squad to have these players who all have different attributes.”

Impressive

Darwin Nunez has not hit the numbers that Erling Haaland has for Manchester City this season, but the 2022 summer signing is starting to play consistently well for Liverpool.

The 23-year-old striker has scored five goals and provided two assists in seven Premier League starts.

The Uruguay international has also scored three goals in three UEFA Champions League starts.

Nunez still needs to improve his game, but the signs are very encouraging indeed.

The striker is leading the line well and is connecting nicely with the likes of Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah.

Liverpool are aiming to finish in the top four of the Premier League table this season as well as win the UEFA Champions League.

In our view, for the Reds to be successful in that quest, Nunez has to bang in the goals.
