Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti has hinted to the Liverpool Echo that Ellis Simms could feature against Wolves this evening.
Everton are set to travel to Molineux later, and their task of picking up a victory has been made harder due to their injury problems.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin is set to miss the game, which means that Everton will have to have a re-shuffle up-front.
Cenk Tosun looks likely to lead the line for the Toffees this evening, after he bagged a brace in the FA Cup.
But Ancelotti has also suggested that Simms may get some game time in the Premier League.
“Why not? Ellis Simms is in the squad,” Ancelotti said. “He is training with us. The opportunity can happen.”
Simms has scored prolifically for Everton at youth team level across a number of seasons now, but he has found chances hard to come by in their first-team.
If he could step up and prove that he can score goals in the top tier it would be a major boost to Ancelotti’s side, who currently lack cover for Calvert-Lewin.
Everton paid a sizeable fee to recruit Tosun, but he has rarely looked up to the standard required, and the pressure will be on him to impress if he does start tonight.
