West Ham United striker Michail Antonio says his side changed the way they pressed and defended to beat Chelsea last Sunday.

West Ham defeated their London rivals 3-1 at the London Stadium thanks to goals from Michail Antonio, Nayef Aguerd and Lucas Paqueta.

Speaking about the Hammers’ victory on The Footballer’s Football Podcast, the 33-year-old said: “For the first half, they were kind of running all over us. It was like attack v defence.

“And in the second half, we kind of changed it up, like how we’re going to press and how we’re going to sit back in. And it worked for the second half. Even though they had a lot of possession of the ball, they weren’t creating much.”

With David Moyes’ side having also managed to take a point from their first game of the season, West Ham supporters can be pleased with the start the club have made to the new campaign.

In contrast, there will be much disappointment in west London. West Ham’s win against Chelsea means the Blues have claimed just one point out of the six that were on offer after drawing their opener with Liverpool the week prior.

West Ham’s win is really promising

Antonio looked back to his best as he bullied Chelsea’s backline before putting the ball past Robert Sanchez, while James Ward-Prowse had a debut to remember.

The England midfielder, who joined West Ham from Southampton this summer, provided two assists to help his side claim all three points.

There was a lot of doom and gloom at the London Stadium after the club sold Declan Rice to Arsenal. It took a while before the Hammers entered the market to sign a replacement for the 24-year-old.

However, they have now added both Ward-Prowse and Edson Alvarez to their squad and defeated one of their fiercest rivals in just the second week of the new season.

It is probably fair to say, then, that things are looking quite bright for West Ham right now.
