Fabrizio Romano has written in his email newsletter (7:30am, October 18, 2022) that he is expecting updates this morning on Aston Villa’s decision regarding the future of Steven Gerrard.
The well-known and well-respected journalist has claimed that he is expecting to hear more about Villa’s decision on whether to keep or sack Gerrard today.
Pochettino has added that the Villans have approached former Tottenham Hotspur head coach Mauricio Pochettino, but the ex-Paris Saint-Germain boss wants to wait until after the 2022 World Cup finals in Qatar.
Villa are 16th in the Premier League table at the moment with nine points from 10 matches, just a point above the relegation zone.

Fabrizio Romano on Aston Villa – Steven Gerrard
Romano wrote: “The situation for Steven Gerrard is really complicated, I expect updates in the morning on Aston Villa’s decision.
“On Mauricio Pochettino, three English clubs have already approached him but his priority has always been to wait at least until the World Cup to decide his future.
“Let’s see if Aston Villa will be able to change his mind, but I’m told this is the situation.”
We should not be surprised if Aston Villa do decide to part company with Steven Gerrard.
The Liverpool legend has failed to be successful with Villa, who are not playing well and are struggling for results.
The Villans have a good team who were expected to at least challenge for the Premier League top eight, but Gerrard is unable to move them up the table.
The Villa chiefs will surely not want the team to go down to the Championship.
