Manchester United defender Jonny Evans is 36 now and is a hugely experienced player. He has played with some great players in the past, such as Wayne Rooney, Patrice Evra, Michael Carrick and Ryan Giggs.
Jonny Evans is now in his second spell at Manchester United, and the Northern Ireland international central defender has named the young player at Old Trafford who has blown him away.
It is midfielder Kobbie Mainoo, who is 18 now and is starting to make an impact in Erik ten Hag’s side. The teenager has been so good that United are planning to hand him a new contract.
Jonny Evans gives his verdict on Manchester United teammate Kobbie Mainoo
Evans said about Mainoo on TNT Sports: “With Kobbie, in my first training session back here, I came in and the first thing I said to the kit man was, ‘Who’s that young lad?’
“He’s a top player, and in the session we were playing, he was playing with his head up and as a defender, as soon as a midfielder gets his head up, you’re in trouble.”
My View: Kobbie Mainoo is a Manchester United gem
Given how much Jonny Evans has seen in the game and the players he has played with, to be shocked by Kobbie Mainoo in his first training session following his return to Old Trafford in 2023 shows just how good the teenager is.
In my opinion, Mainoo is a gem of a footballer and could star for Manchester United for years to come.

Mainoo is only 18 now, but he has already made himself a key player in the United midfield. The teenager has scored two goals and given two assists in 22 matches in all competitions for the Red Devils this season.
Wayne Rooney thinks that Mainoo is the new Bastian Schweinsteiger – he is that good.
But, we have to be cautious about hyping Mainoo too much. After all, he has played a handful of matches for the United first team and is only 18.
We have to make sure that the teenager does not come under too much pressure or criticism when things go wrong.
United fans will have to support Mainoo when he goes through a bad spell or makes mistakes.
