Folarin Balogun has told The Mirror that he is open to leaving Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal in the January transfer window amid reported interest from West Ham United.

What’s the story?

Arsenal striker Balogun is struggling for playing time at the moment.

The 20-year-old has made one start and one substitute appearance in the Premier League, and has played seven minutes in the Carabao Cup so far this season.

The youngster has said that he is open to leaving Arsenal in the January transfer window.

Balogun has added that Emile Smith Rowe and Bukayo Saka have told him to stay and be patient.

West Ham United and Middlesbrough are interested in Balogun, according to The Mirror.

What Folarin Balogun has said

Balogun has told The Mirror:“I feel like I am ready for a new challenge. I feel like I have played youth football for a while.

“I have scored goals at that level and improved at that level drastically compared to now. At the same time I am not sure what that challenge might be.

“It might be a loan, or if I am needed at Arsenal I am here and the gaffer knows that as well. I feel like I am definitely open to a new challenge, wherever it is I will be ready.”

The youngster added: “I speak to Emile and Bukayo a lot. They tell me to be patient. They tell me it is not an overnight thing, which it hasn’t been for them. It would be naive for me to think that.”

Leaving Arsenal on loan

Balogun signed a new contract with Arsenal only in April 2021.

It shows that the Gunners rate the youngster highy.

So, it is unlikely that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta will want to sell the striker in the January transfer window.

However, a loan move away from the Emirates Stadium might not be a bad idea.
