Leeds United target Mohamed Camara has reportedly left pre-season training with RB Salzburg amid reports that Jesse Marsch is keen on signing the midfielder this summer.

According to the Daily Express’ Ryan Taylor, the 22-year-old has been excused by the Austrian champions to resolve his future following Premier League interest from the likes of Leeds and Brighton and Hove Albion, with the Elland Road side reportedly viewing Camara as a potential replacement for Kalvin Phillips.

With a reported price tag of £25m, Leeds are seemingly working fast behind the scenes to sign the Mali international, who last season was one of Salzburg’s best players in their title-winning campaign and in their deep run into the UEFA Champions League, with Camara named Man of the Match against Bayern Munich in a 2-1 win.

Whilst Salzburg have already lost Karim Adeymi to a club-record fee this summer as well as Brenden Aaronson to Leeds, it is likely that the Austrian side will allow Camara to leave the club as well given Marsch’s strong relationship with his former side, with the American the one who handed the midfielder his first-tier debut.

Indeed, replacing Phillips will be no easy task for Leeds given how important the midfielder is for the club both on and off the pitch, but Camara could be a wise signing for the Whites this summer given his relationship with Marsch and how well he knows his former coach’s system.

Next season will be a strange one for Leeds with Phillips and Raphinha both set to leave Elland Road, yet if Marsch manages to sign Camara, the Whites could have an excellent talent on their hands who could make the defensive midfield position their own.

After all, the Mali talent is regarded as one of Salzburg’s best talents, and given Marsch’s record of developing players, Camara could be outstanding for the Premier League side next season if Leeds manage to sign the 22-year-old to replace Phillips.
