Tottenham Hotspur’s ambition under Andre Villas-Boas should know no bounds. What do they need to do improve?
In the twenty years of the English Premier League, never has the level of competition amongst the higher echelons of the table been so combative.
For much of the season, there where at least five teams capable of winning the league and up to seven playing for those illustrious Champion’s League positions.
Ultimately – and deservedly – Manchester City were crowned the Champions having fought off stubborn resistance from their bitterest rivals, Manchester United.
As for the remaining European places; they finished occupied by Arsenal then Tottenham Hotspur in that order; a miniature contest between another derby duo.
Next season, these teams have the gruelling task of competing on four fronts both domestically and abroad, so it is imperative that they strengthen their squads to the best of their abilities.
So what next for Tottenham Hotspur?
Spurs have a strong first eleven and a decent bench. Their backline looks imposing and quick; their midfield has the quality to nullify teams and supply the strikers.
The permanent attainment of Adebayor looks predestined. He has been a revelation in his short time leading the line predominantly on his own.
One man, nonetheless, does not equal a successful team, especially through the density of fixtures throughout the year. If Tottenham hope to impress, they will definitely need to offload the underperforming Saha or the underused Defoe to reinvest in some healthy competition upfront.
It may also be prudent to think about a readymade replacement for the veteran goalkeeper, Brad Friedel.

Prior to Villas-Boas’ appointment, Chairman Daniel Levy had already been stated as following the situations of Internacional striker, Damiao, and Lyon keeper, Hugo Lloris.
Who Do They Need?
Moutinho is about as close as you can get to a carbon copy of Modric; a deep-lying midfielder able to keep things ticking over.
Considering that Tottenham are less adverse to splashing the cash, they should possibly consider an audacious bid for Huntelaar that will ruffle a few feathers up the road at the Emirates or even attempt to establish a Newcastle-esque formidable all-African top partnership between Adebayor and Ba. After all, a £7 million buyout clause will not prove daunting to the Spurs board.
