Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s latest goal salvaged a point in Everton’s Merseyside derby clash with Liverpool, and Michael Keane was left gushing about the striker’s performance when speaking to the Toffees’ official website.

Two weeks ago, Richarlison raised eyebrows inside and outside of Stanley Park when he compared his Everton strike-partner to a certain perma-tanned Portuguese superstar.

And there was something distinctly Ronaldo-esque about the way Calvert-Lewin soared through the air to rescue a draw for Everton during the most exciting Goodison Park derby in recent times.

Like the Juventus talisman, ‘DCL’ appears to have found a way to defy physics on a football pitch while his relentless work-rate behind the scenes has sparked an almost overnight transformation into arguably Europe’s hottest centre-forward.

And Keane is full of praise for a man who has found the net ten times in just seven games in 2020/21.

“I think his hold up play, his movement, his instincts around the box have improved massively,” said the £30 million centre-back.

“That’s why he’s getting so many goals. He’s unbelievable at heading the ball. He’s probably got one of the best leaps I’ve ever seen.

“He’s always going to be a threat in the air but a lot of other things in his game have improved as well. So fair play to him, he works really hard and he showed what he can do with England as well the other week.”

12 months ago, Calvert-Lewin might have let his head drop after missing a couple of presentable chances against Jurgen Klopp’s Premier League champions.

But the goal-scoring machine doesn’t seem to malfunction these days. It was his never-say-die attitude, as much as his clinical finishing ability, that helped continue Everton’s best start to a season since the 1800s.
